Raising Four on Her Own, Grandma Pilyoung Yoo
Grandma Pilyoung Yoo is not in the best of health.
She often repeats questions once she asked before and she asked for help finding money she believed was hidden under her bed cover.
But when speaking about her children, she smiled brightly and shared stories with warmth.
She raised four children on her own—a daughter, a son, and twin boys.
Her face lit up as she proudly showed her manicured hands, polished with nail color from her eldest son, who works at a cosmetics company.
Born in Chungcheong Province and later living in Donam-dong, Seoul,
Grandma Yoo raised her children alone after her husband left for America to earn money and never returned.
She said that time was so hard, she would never want to go back to it.
Though she spoke of hardships, her hands were soft and beautiful.
It made me wonder—how much work had those hands done to build a life for her family?
I hope that in her heart, only the good and beautiful memories remain,
and the pain gently fades away.

몸이 많이 좋지 않으신 유필영 할머니
같은 질문도 몇 번씩 하시기도 하시고, 침대커버에 돈을 숨겨뒀다며 찾아달라고도 하셨다.
하지만 아들 딸 이야기에는 웃으시며 이야기를 들려주셨다.
큰딸, 아들, 쌍둥이 아들까지 4남매를 키우셨고
큰아들이 화장품 회사에 다니며 가져다 주신 매니큐어를 바른 손을 보여주시면 밝게 웃으셨다.
충정도에서 태어나서 서울 돈암동에서 사셨다는 할머니
할아버지는 미국에 돈벌러 가서 오지 않으셔서 홀로 4남매를 키우셨다고 한다.
그 시절이 너무 힘들었는지 다시는 돌아가고 싶지 않으시다는 할머니
할머니의 이야기에 가슴이 아파왔다.
고생하셨다고 하셨지만 손이 너무 고우셨다.
그 손으로 얼마나 많은 일들을 하셨을까
할머니의 기억 속에 힘들었던 기억은 지워지고 예쁘고 좋은 추억만 남기를 바래본다.
