The Flower of Our Family, Grandma Malnam Kim
Beloved by her grandchildren and always surrounded by friends, Grandma Malnam Kim is truly the most popular person in the family!
Her days are full and lively, thanks to her warm personality and many friendships.
Her childhood, however, was far from easy.
Food was scarce, and the whole family had to work on the farm, so she often had to miss school.
As a child, she once fell from a horizontal bar and suffered serious injuries to her lips and head. Perhaps because of this, working under the sun would give her headaches, making it hard for her to help much with farm work.
She grew up with six sisters and one brother.
Together, they would bathe in the stream, play, and share snacks like sweet potatoes—precious memories of a joyful time.
She still fondly remembers her mother’s cooking, especially chueotang (loach soup) and ssukbap (mugwort rice), which remain her favorites to this day.
In her youth, Grandma worked at a department store and was known for her elegant fashion. Photos from that time show how beautiful she was.
Her husband adored her, and they married when she was just 23.
She raised one son and two daughters with dedication and love.
Every morning, she prepared five lunchboxes for her three children—a tough task, but she says those were the happiest days, seeing her children grow up strong and kind.
She also helped raise her grandchildren while her daughter worked, and they still remember the songs she used to sing—songs they can hum even now.
Grandma has traveled to the U.S., Canada, Europe, and beyond.
To her, any trip is a good trip—she simply loves to explore new places.
Despite the hardships, she has always been a warm wife, a devoted mother, and a loving grandmother, sharing her heart generously with everyone around her.
It's no wonder she's cherished not only by her family but by her many friends as well.
I hope she continues to live happily and healthily for many years to come—forever the flower of our family.
가족의 꽃, 김말남 할머니
손자, 손녀들에게도 인기 1위, 친구분들이 많으셔서 늘 바쁘신 나날을 보내시는김말남할머니!
할머니의 어린 시절은 먹을 것은 부족했고, 온 가족이 농사를 지어야 했기에 학교도 빠지는 날이 많았다고 한다. 할머니는 어렸을 때 철봉에서 떨어져 입술과 머리에 큰 상처를 입었는데 그래서인지 농사일을 도우러 햇볕에 나가면 머리가 아파서 일을 많이 못했다고 한다.
1남 6녀로 형제들이 많아 같이 냇가에서 목욕하고 같이 놀기도 하고 고구마 같은 간식도 먹으며 즐겁게 지냈다고 한다.
할머니는 엄마의 음식 중에 추어탕, 쑥밥이 제일 맛있었고 지금도 생각난다고 한다.
할머니는 젊은 시절 백화점에서 일해서 옷을 이쁘게 잘 입었고, 사진 속에 젊은 할머니는 너무 이쁘셨다. 할머버지가 할머니를 많이 좋아하셔서 23살 일찍 결혼을 하게 되었고 아들, 두 딸을 기르며 열심히 사셨다. 매일 아침 세 아이 도시락을 5개씩 싸며 힘들었지만 아이들이 바르게 잘 커서 그 때가 제일 행복했다고 한다.
회사다니는 딸을 위해 손자, 손녀도 키워주셨고 할머니의 노래를 아직도 기억하며 따라 부른다고 한다.
미국, 캐나다, 유럽 등 여행도 많이 다니고 어디든지 여행이면 다 좋다는 할머니!
힘든 시간이었지만 늘 따뜻한 아내, 엄마, 할머니로 가족들에게 사랑을 주셨던 할머니!
그래서인지 할머니는 가족들에게도 친구분들에게도 인기가 많으시다.
지금처럼 가족의 꽃으로로 즐겁게 오래 오래 사시면 좋겠다!
