Singer of Gyeonggi Folk Songs, Grandma Aehyang Kim
Born as the youngest daughter in a family full of sisters, Grandma Aehyang Kim was showered with love growing up.
Before marriage, she lived with her older sisters and later married, raising one son and one daughter of her own.
She and her husband ran a small store, but when business was tough, they lived apart for about ten years. During those hard times, Grandma Kim supported herself through various small businesses. Thanks to her cooking skills and handy talents, she was able to work and support her family.
Now, after her children married, she lives in the countryside with her husband.
They built a home, farm the land, and raise chickens together.
In winter, she shares homegrown napa cabbages and homemade kimchi with her sisters.
She also enjoys cooking chicken dishes for friends who visit—sharing food with family and friends is her greatest joy.
Another passion of hers is to sing Gyeonggi folk!
She learns with a group, performs on stage dressed in hanbok with beautiful makeup, and feels happiest in those moments.
She hopes to share the beauty of traditional Korean folk songs with many people.
Through sharing love with food and tradition through song, Grandma Kim shines brightly.
I wish her many joyful years filled with the things she loves to do.
경기 민요 부르는, 김애향 할머니
딸들이 많은 집 막내로 태어나 사랑을 많이 받고 자라신 김애향 할머니!
김 할머니는 언니들이 많아서 결혼하기 전까지 언니집에서 같이 살며 지냈다.
남들과 같이 결혼을 하고 아들 딸을 낳아 기르며 사셨다.
남편과 같이 가게를 하셨는데, 가게가 잘 되지 않아서 경제적으로 힘들게 되어 남편과 10년 정도 떨어져 사시며 이런 저런 장사도 하고, 생계를 위해 힘든 시절을 보내셨다. 다행히 음식도 잘 만들고, 손재주도 좋아서 할머니는 일을 할 수 있었다고 한다.
지금은 아들, 딸 결혼하고 남편과 시골에서 집을 짓고 농사도 지으시고, 닭도 키우시며 지낸다.
겨울철이면 직접 지은 배추를 언니들에게 나누어 주기도 하고 직접 김치를 만들어 나누어 주기도 하신다. 그리고 할머니 집을 방문하는 친구들에게 닭 요리를 해 주시기도 하시는데, 가족들과 친구들과 직접 만든 음식을 나누어 먹는 것이 큰 즐거움이라고 한다.
또 하나의 즐거움!
할머니는 취미로 경기 민요를 배우시고, 같이 배우는 분들과 무대에도 선다. 이쁘게 화장하고 한복을 입고 민요를 부르는 순간이 너무 행복하다고 하신다.
그리고 많은 사람들에게 민요를 들려주고 싶다고 하신다.
